Unbroken: Honouring Veterans from the Saugeen Ojibway Nation

“Unbroken” commemorates the lives, experiences, and sacrifices of First Nations Veterans from the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and the Saugeen First Nation.

It explores the stories of local veterans that have unfolded over the past two centuries, from those who fought alongside Tecumseh during the War of 1812, to those who served during the World Wars, the Korean War, in the American Military, and in recent peacekeeping missions.

The men and women featured in this exhibit have made, and continue to make, extraordinary contributions to Canada’s military legacy, despite confronting barriers, marginalization, and discrimination.

In Their Steps / Through Their Eyes

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation of the Netherlands and the final days of the Second World War, students from Owen Sound District Secondary School and Georgian Bay Community School present their research on local servicemen involved in the liberation of Europe from Nazi forces. Students from both schools travelled to the Netherlands in May of 2025 to pay tribute to their respective serviceman during the National Commemorative Service at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery.

Created in partnership with the Meaford Museum and the Bluewater District School Board.
